What is a vocal reel?
A vocal reel is a filmed showcase of your singing and performance ability, designed to give agents, casting teams and other industry professionals a clear sense of you as a performer. Our vocal reels are created specifically with musical theatre performers in mind.

Where is your studio based?
Our vocal reel studio is based in London SE26, with easy transport connections from across London. All sessions take place in our dedicated recording and filming space.

How much do vocal reels cost?
Our professional vocal reel sessions start from £95, with different packages available depending on how many songs you'd like to record.

What songs should I choose for my vocal reel?
Choose songs that suit your voice, casting and personality rather than simply trying to demonstrate the biggest notes you can sing. A strong vocal reel should show who you are as a performer, with contrasting material where appropriate.

 

Can you help me choose my songs?
Yes. If you're unsure what to sing, our Reel Prep Coach can help you choose material that suits your voice, casting and the kind of work you're targeting, so you can arrive at your session knowing exactly what you're going to perform.

 

How do I send my backing tracks before my session?
You'll receive instructions before your session explaining how and when to send your tracks. Sending everything in advance gives us time to prepare your session so that your studio time can stay focused on performing and filming.

 

What if I don't have a suitable backing track?
We also create bespoke piano and orchestral backing tracks, including transpositions and custom song cuts. If an existing track isn't in the right key, length or arrangement, we can create something specifically for your reel.

 

Can you transpose my backing track into a different key?
Yes. If your track isn't sitting comfortably in your voice, we can transpose or recreate it in a key that works better for you.

 

Do I need to learn the whole song?
Not necessarily. Vocal reels are designed to showcase you efficiently, so we can work with appropriate song cuts rather than recording an entire number. Your material should be thoroughly prepared before the session so your studio time can focus on performance.

 

What happens during a vocal reel session?
We'll get you set up with in-ear monitoring, film your performances and review your takes with you as we go. Your reel is built during the session, so you'll be able to watch the finished result before you leave.

 

Do you use autotune?
No - a lot of places do, we don't.  Casting teams are well aware when reels are autotuned which means you are likely not to be considered for the role/ We deliberately keep vocals natural. There's no autotune and no unnecessary overproduction — the aim is to present an authentic performance that represents what you actually sound like.

 

Will the microphone be visible in my vocal reel?
No. Our setup allows us to capture professional-quality audio while keeping the microphone out of shot, leaving you with a clean, casting-friendly image.

 

Do I have to wear headphones?
No traditional studio headphones. We use in-ear monitoring, keeping the filming clean while allowing you to hear everything you need during your performance.

 

Can I move and act while I'm singing?
Absolutely. These aren't static studio demos. We want the performance and storytelling to come through, so you're encouraged to perform naturally rather than feeling tied to a microphone.

 

Can we review takes during the session?
Yes. We film and review your takes together, allowing you to see what is working and choose the performances you're happiest with.

Will I receive the individual song videos as well as my full reel?
Yes. You'll receive your completed vocal reel as well as the individual song videos, giving you flexibility when uploading or submitting your material.

 

Can I use my vocal reel on Spotlight?
Your individual song videos can be used separately, making it easy to select the most appropriate material when updating your performer profiles or sending submissions.

How quickly will I receive my vocal reel?
Your completed material is delivered the same day, so there isn't a long post-production wait after your session.

 

I've never recorded a vocal reel before. Does that matter?
Not at all. We'll guide you through the process from setup to choosing takes. You don't need previous studio experience — you just need to arrive knowing your material.

 

What's the difference between a vocal reel and a singing reel?
They're often different names for essentially the same thing: filmed material that showcases you singing. Whether you're searching for a vocal reel, singing reel or musical theatre reel, the important thing is that it represents your voice, casting and performance authentically.

Know your songs securely, practise with the tracks you're going to use and think about the acting choices you want to make. You'll receive preparation information beforehand, and additional support is available through our Reel Prep Coach if you'd like help getting everything session-ready.

How do I book a vocal reel?
Choose the vocal reel package that suits you and book your session online. Once you're booked, we'll send you everything you need to prepare and submit your material ahead of the session.
